The comprehensive Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF) is 3 day course and is for learners intending to act as a First Aider in the workplace. This qualification will provide all the required first aid skills necessary to manage a patient that is not breathing normally, is unconscious, bleeding or is ill or injured prior to the arrival of the emergency services. The course is designed to provide the First Aider with the skills necessary to give effective basic life support, diagnose and treat minor and manage major injuries or illness keeping the patient alive until the emergency services arrive.
This qualification will be enable the holder of this qualification to deal competently and confidently as a first aid trained member of staff in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
The course duration is 3 days.
- The roles and responsibilities of the First Aider.
- Contents of first aid kits (avoiding cross infection).
- Recording of incidents and accidents.
- Assessing the situation in an emergency.
- First aid equipment and its safe use.
Administer first aid to a casualty who:
is unconscious (including seizures)
requires cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
is wounded or bleeding
is in shock
has minor conditions – to include: minor cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters
Administer first aid to a casualty with:
injuries to bones, muscles, joints including suspected spinal injury
burns and scalds
Anaphylactic shock and use of auto-injectors (Epipen)
Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid
All successful students will be issued with a First Aid at Work Certificate, along with a wallet-sized plastic card detailing their qualification which is valid for a period of 3 years.
This training course is informative, fun and innovative. During the training you will understand the theory and demonstrate how to safely deal with emergencies, with an emphasis on those occurring in the workplace. Handling `life threatening` situations is covered, as well as recognising and responding to some of the more common ailments that may be encountered in the workplace.
